Senior Database Architect

The Opportunity

Our award-winning and growing software company is providing the right seasoned software database architect the opportunity to have immediate and lasting impact on a new and exciting product.  As part of a small but senior engineering team you will lead the design and development of database and associated data analysis and reporting applications for our mobile networking products. 

Your Role as a Key Contributor

Reporting to the project Senior Architect, you will define, develop and lead our database approach.  In this role you will work with the development team and program manager, as well as leverage the industry and mobile product understanding of the other product architecture team. 

Types of Ongoing Projects and Responsibilities

• Work with the project manager, architects, and developers to help design new products.
• Ownership of the new product data schema, from modeling and design to implementation.
• Establish the product standards for use of the database and definition of database coding standards and practices.
• Implement, own and enforce performance standards.  Lead tuning and optimization where needed within the context of core product requirements. 

Qualifications

To be successful, you will need to draw upon your broad experience in developing database back-end systems for enterprise applications on the Microsoft Windows Server platform using Microsoft SQL, IIS and .NET technologies.  Experience with geographic information systems (GIS) and wireless networking is a plus, but not required.  In addition, we are looking for someone who has:

• Been a database architect / developer with relevant experience in enterprise-class development and substantial experience in all aspects of database design
• 7+ years experience in data modeling, including a complete understanding of all normalized forms, ER Modeling and industry design standards
• 7+ years experience implementing database systems, including MS SQL Server, and at least 3 of those years with MS SQL 2000 and 2005
• 7+ years experience in the design and development of stored procedures, triggers and queries in T-SQL
• 3+ years experience with data warehousing, data marts, dimensional modeling, OLAP, star schema databases and Microsoft reporting and analysis services
• 3+ years experience integrating SQL Server db solutions in .NET environments, with strong working knowledge of ASP .NET and SOA with web services
• Experience in SQL Server clusters and database replication
• Experience in SQL optimization techniques and a deep understanding of the SQL Server optimization engine
• Solid background in C or C++ and a strong working knowledge of development in ASP .NET and web services with C#
• A Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience (advanced degree a plus), and development experience in a commercial software company
  

Physical Requirements

This position requires the manual dexterity sufficient to operate phones, computers, and other office equipment.  The person in the role must communicate clearly using the English language to accurately convey information and be able to hear at normal speaking levels both in person and over the telephone.  Vision correctable to 20/40 is required to review written materials.  Possible occasional travel to visit customers utilizing air flights and trains, as well as the ability to operate a vehicle.  Visits to customer locations generally situated in offices and providing good working conditions with little or no exposure to extremes in noises or temperatures.  There are little or no safety or health hazards.  Minimal lifting or climbing.  Work is performed in an office setting.
