Systems Engineer -Northeast

[Please note this position description is quite lengthy to give you an accurate depiction of the role.]

The Opportunity
The Systems Engineer (SE) provides technical credibility as the product expert on the Northeast sales team for NetMotion Wireless.   The SE is a highly technical professional who is responsible for working with their territory sales manager and inside sales representative to drive significant revenue growth within the Northeast region by providing technical sales support during the customer qualification process, pre-sales technical support to prospects during the evaluation process, and ongoing technical training to NetMotion resellers and partners within the region. 

This is a remote position that is based in the New York Metro area, Boston or Philadelphia.   Due to the nature of the role, 50%+ travel is expected.   You will report directly to the Systems Engineer Manager.  This position pays a base salary plus incentive compensation, stock options as well as full benefits.

Your Role as a Key Contributor
As a Systems Engineer you will be expected to quickly come up to speed on the NetMotion product, as well as understand how the software can be deployed across networks and utilizing different types of devices – laptops, smartphones, PDA’s – that are Windows based.  Your in-depth knowledge of networking, security, firewalls and systems will help you to overcome technical objectives to the NetMotion product, while helping to solve difficult technical problems for potential customers during pre-sales presentations, demonstrations and evaluations. 

You will be the technical evangelist for our software in your region, representing the company not just with potential customers but also at partner and reseller trainings, events and trade shows as necessary. 

Types of Ongoing Projects and Responsibilities

  • Partner with the territory sales manager and inside sales representative to establish strategy for sales and lead generation for the territory.
  • Deliver technical sales presentations to prospective customers and drive technical qualification to ensure appropriate fit with NetMotion products.
  • Provide training and technical support to NetMotion channel and marketing partners.
  • Install NetMotion product and provide technical support to prospective customers who are evaluating NetMotion products.
  • Consult with prospective and existing customers regarding appropriate third-party products that are complimentary to NetMotion’s.
  • Funnel feature requests and product ideas into product management.  Assist product management in the developing priorities for the company’s product roadmap.
  • When necessary, assist NetMotion’s technical support team resolve post-sale customer issues.

Your Qualifications
While this is a pre-sales position, our product requires an in-depth understanding of software and network engineering.  You will need 5+ years of software sales engineering experience working with large enterprise accounts to excel in this role.  Because of the complexity of the product, you must have a strong foundation in network design, configuration and troubleshooting – current MCSE, Cisco or other relevant vendor certification is desirable.

Your will be able to leverage your past experience working hands-on installing, configuring and trouble-shooting complex networks, resulting in a strong understanding of TCP/IP, routers and firewalls to understand potential customer situations. You will be able to really hit the ground running if you have a strong security background, particularly with VPN/firewall products and/or services.  It would be really beneficial if you did already have your CISSP or other security certification as well as experience working with wireless networking, wireless security and/or wireless management products.
 
With your role you must be able to communicate technical concepts to all levels of people, from IT managers to CEO’s.  You must be able to effectively communicate with and present technical topics with networking and security groups within large IT organizations.  Experience working in verticals such as insurance, utilities, healthcare, public safety, telecommunications or other vertical with a large number of mobile field workers is desirable.

Since you will be remotely based in the region, you must be self-motivated and have a driving personality that helps you to understand when you may need to reach out to others as you need support.  You must have worked in a remote/home office previously.  Working in a small, start-up company means that you have a lot of freedom in determining your day, but you must be able to consistently align your work to the priorities of your team and the business.  You must be willing to travel 60% of the time.

From an office skills perspective, you’ll need to really be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, or other related software programs.  You will also need to have some experience working with a CRM and tracking key information on customers and potential customers. 

Physical Requirements
This position requires the manual dexterity sufficient to operate phones, computers, and other office equipment.  The person in the role must communicate clearly using the English language to accurately convey information and be able to hear at normal speaking levels both in person and over the telephone.  Vision correctable to 20/40 is required to review written materials.  Virtual office is set up by employee.  60+% travel utilizing air flights and trains, as well as the ability to operate a vehicle to customer locations generally situated in offices and providing good working conditions with little or no exposure to extremes in noises or temperatures.  There are little or no safety or health hazards.  Minimal lifting or climbing.  Meetings are usually performed in an office setting.
