When Symantec's AntiVirus software (version 9.0.1 or higher) is installed on a machine running the Mobility XE server, memory is depleted when the number of sessions reaches about 600.
Mobility XE is designed to support small and large deployments of wireless devices. A single Mobility XE server can handle roughly 1,000 simultaneously connected clients; larger deployments use a pool of servers.
Scalability is hampered when a complete installation of the Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition software is running on the same machine as the NetMotion Mobility Server. The machine's memory is depleted before it can reach its maximum number of client sessions.
The problem seems to occur only when the Symtdi.sys driver, which is used by the e-mail component of Symantec AntiVirus, is loaded. When the e-mail component is not installed on the Mobility server, the system's memory usage is normal. Simply turning off the e-mail component is not enough: when installing the anti-virus software, choose a "custom" installation (the default is "typical") and de-select the e-mail component. (Since e-mail clients are usually not installed on servers, it's unlikely that this Symantec component is needed.)
