Summary
This technical note describes the procedure for moving your Mobility warehouse settings to another computer.
Background
Mobility XE stores all client and server settings information in the Mobility warehouse, which can be collocated with a Mobility server or located on a separate computer. You may need to move the warehouse for a number of reasons, such as:
You initially installed the warehouse collocated with a Mobility server, but would like to move the warehouse to a separate computer for better performance.
You want to replace the computer hosting the warehouse with a newer computer.
To move the warehouse, you will need to install another copy of the warehouse on the replacement computer, export the LDIF file from the original warehouse, import the LDIF file on the replacement warehouse, and then point your Mobility XE servers at the new warehouse.
Note: You will need to reboot your Mobility servers near the end of this procedure.
Installing a New Copy of the Mobility XE Warehouse
Run Mobility XE Setup on the new computer. From the main Setup screen, choose Mobility XE warehouse only (stand-alone).
Follow the prompts to install the Mobility warehouse on your computer. Make a note of the password you create. It cannot be changed or recovered if lost.
Exporting the LDIF File from the Original Warehouse
NetMotion Mobility provides a command line tool called Nmwdump.exe that you can use to export an LDIF file from your original warehouse.
On the computer running your existing Mobility server, open a command prompt and navigate to the directory where you installed Mobility XE (typically C:\Program Files\NetMotion Server).
To run nmwdump.exe and direct the output to a file, enter the following:
nmwdump.exe > [Filename].LDIFYou can output the file to any name and location that you prefer.
Copy the exported LDIF file to the computer hosting the replacement Mobility warehouse.
Importing the LDIF File on the Replacement Warehouse
The Mobility warehouse is powered by the Sun ONE Directory Server. Use the Sun ONE Directory Server console to import the saved LDIF file.
On the computer running your replacement Mobility warehouse, open the Sun ONE Server Console. (On the Start menu, click Programs, Sun ONE Server Products, Sun ONE Server Console 5.2.)
On the Servers and Applications tab, expand the tree until you see your Directory Server listing. Select your server, and then click Open.
On the Configuration tab, select Schema, and then click Disable on the right panel.
On the Tasks tab, click Import from LDIF.
In the Import LDIF dialog box, enter the path to your LDIF file, or click Browse to select it.
Click OK to import the file. A status dialog box will show the progress and success or failure of your import.
Note: you may see an error, but the dialog should indicate a successful import.
When the import has completed successfully, click Close to dismiss the Import LDIF dialog box.
On the Tasks tab, click Restart Directory Server, and then click Yes in the confirmation dialog box. Close the status dialog box once it has indicated a successful restart.
On the Configuration tab, select Schema, and then click Enable on the right panel.
Reestablishing the Replication Agreement
If you had a replication agreement between this warehouse and a standby warehouse, you will need to reestablish the replication agreement. For step-by-step instructions, see Enabling Replication in tech note 2130.
Configuring your Mobility XE Servers to Use the New Primary Warehouse
Complete the following steps for each Mobility XE server in your server pool.
On each Mobility server, click Start, Programs, NetMotion, Startup Settings.
In the Startup Settings utility, select the Mobility XE Warehouse tab. Enter the address and port number for the new primary warehouse, and then click OK.
When prompted, enter the administrative name and password for the replacement warehouse and click OK.
After authenticating and connecting to the new warehouse, you will need to reboot the computer.
After connect the first Mobility server to the warehouse, reinitialize this warehouse before attaching subsequent Mobility servers.
Once you have reconfigured and restarted all the Mobility XE servers in your pool, they will be able to read and write settings properly using the new primary warehouse. You may want to create a new standby warehouse for your pool by following the instructions in tech note 2130.
Reinitializing the New Warehouse
After all the servers in your pool have been configured to point to the new primary warehouse, you must reinitialize the warehouse. See tech note 2222 for instructions.
