"According to Tom Johnston, senior vice president of products and marketing for NetMotion Wireless, an application such as an electronic medical record system may not be able to handle a loss of network connectivity. As a result, a clinician might have to re-take a patient history that failed to upload...NetMotion's (Mobility XE Mobile VPN) software, installed on a network server and on individual devices such as laptops and PDAs, works as a mobile VPN. 'In the event of a gap, the software tells the computer that network coverage is still there — it's just really slow,' Johnston explained. Johnston noted that more than 95 percent of the company's customers realize at least a 5 percent improvement in productivity; 50 percent of customers see at least a 20 percent improvement."
