Summary

Group Policy Object (GPO) computer and/or machine settings in Microsoft Active Directory are not fully supported in Mobility XE version 8.5 and older.

Description

While NetMotion Wireless has many customers using GPOs successfully with Mobility XE, some customers are unable to get GPO updates to occur reliably on devices running the Mobility XE client. Because GPO updates are highly dependent on timing and can be affected by the specific network in use, they may not work in all environments where Mobility XE is in use.

The Mobility XE client does not allow network traffic until after the user provides valid credentials – fairly late in the process of boot-up and authentication. This may prevent computer and/or machine policies from working. In some cases, the Mobility XE Policy Management module can be used to issue a ‘gpupdate /force’ command after the Mobility server has been reachable for a short period of time. If issuing the command does not force the GPO update to execute successfully, we are currently unable to offer any additional support. We are working to improve support for GPOs in future versions of Mobility.
