Mobility Setup and Deployment Guide

This guide discusses how to plan, setup and deploy your Mobility server and clients. It covers the most common setup configurations that almost all NetMotion Wireless customers encounter. For more details see the System Administrator Guide and our full list of tech notes.

Installation and Setup

Evaluating Mobility XE

For a quick eval setup see Getting a New Mobility Installation Up and Running.

Planning your installation

  • First, decide where on your network your Mobility server will reside. See Where to Deploy your Mobility Server.
  • Check the latest readme for hardware and software requirements. For most installations any server-class machine will work well.

Server installation

  • You will have a chance to configure the most important server settings during installation, and they can also be configured later. For a walkthrough of the server install, see Mobility XE Server Installation.

Client installation

  • The only client setting you'll need to worry about upon install is the IP address of the Mobility server.

Initial Configuration

There are several things that must be configured in a new Mobility installation. You may decide to use the default settings for some of them, or you may have already done some of this configuration during installation, but each of the following areas should be considered. Once you've completed the topics in this section you should have a fully functional Mobility system. For most Mobility customers that's all the configuration that needs to be done, since features such as encryption, roaming, compression, load balancing, failover and the rest are set up with default settings that are appropriate for almost all Mobility users. The below topics discuss other areas of the product that you may want to explore. More information is also available in the System Administrator Guide.
