Compression needs to be enabled at Gateway and Client for maximum benefit

FAQ Category: Common Problems Updated: 1/20/2004
ID Number: 10110 Title: Compression needs to be enabled at Gateway and Client for maximum benefit

Summary:

While compression is independently enabled on the Gateway and the Client, it must be enabled on both in order to obtain the maximum benefit.

Details:
TotalRoam’s compression feature is independently enabled on the Gateway and Client for each network adapter. If compression is enabled only on a Gateway network adapter, TotalRoam will only compress data transmitted on that network adapter from the Gateway to the Client. Conversely, if compression is enabled only on a Client network adapter, TotalRoam will only compress data transmitted on that network adapter from the Client to the Gateway. Maximum benefit from compression is obtained when compression is enabled on the Gateway and the Client network adapters that terminate both ends of the VPN tunnel.
