Title: Non-standard application software does not recognize correct host IP address |
Problem: Standard IP applications rely on the
IP packet header to identify the source or destination IP address
of an IP packet. Non-standard applications may attempt
to include the host IP address within the payload of the packet
that they transmit. If these non-standard applications attempt
to identify the host IP address on a host that has multiple
IP addresses, the application may acquire the wrong IP
identity (an IP identity that is not the TotalRoam VPN
identity).
Solution: The problem is resolved via a work-around
to address the software's non-standard behavior. A simple rearrangement
of the connection order under the advanced tab of the operating
system network properties will resolve this problem. Setting
the MS Loopback Adapter (the network adapter that hosts the
TotalRoam VPN IP identity) as the first connection causes
the non-standard software to identify the host IP address as
the TotalRoam VPN IP address.
Summary: Customers who are running client software
that reads the IP address of the PC may need to manually rearrange
the network connections to set the VPN Connection
(MS Loopback Adapter) as the first network connection.
