ID Number: 10003 Title: How to copy Port Routing configuration to multiple Clients

Summary:

When configuring multiple Clients, the Port Routing feature can be cumbersome to configure, especially when there are many routing rules. If all of the Clients were deployed using common system image that includes TotalRoam, it is possible to copy the Port Routing rules from one Client to another.

Details:

This TechNote has information that deals with making changes in the Windows registry. When editing the registry it is important that changes are made with care. Errors made while editing the registry can leave a system in a non-functional state. If you do not feel comfortable editing the registry, it is recommended that you do not use this approach and instead manually configure the Port Routing rules on each Client.

It is highly recommended that this approach only be done on Clients deployed from a common system image.  This approach does not work when the TotalRoam network adapters are not created in the same order or with the same name.

Exporting the Port Routing rules:

  1. Configure the Port Routing rules and confirm that they work as desired.
  2. Stop the TotalRoam service and make sure the TotalRoam Management Console is closed.
  3. Run Regedit.
  4. Search for HKLM\SOFTWARE\Padcom\TotalRoam\PortRouting
  5. Right-click on the PortRouting key and click Export.
  6. In the Export window, chose a destination folder and file name.
  7. Choose to save the file with the .reg extension.
  8. Click Save.
  9. Restart the TotalRoam service.

Importing the Port Routing rules:

  1. Stop the TotalRoam service and make sure the Management Console is closed.
  2. Double-click on the .reg file.
  3. When asked if you want to add the information to the registry, click Yes.
  4. Start the TotalRoam Management Console.
  5. Confirm that the Port Routing rules were imported correctly.
  6. Start the TotalRoam service and make sure all communications are working as desired.
