Title: Installing TotalRoam on a Microsoft® Windows® Domain Controller |
| |
|
|
Summary:
Because of differences between users on a standard
windows machine and on a domain controller, configuration
changes must be made to TotalRoam following installation
before TotalRoam will work.
Details:
The individual TotalRoam processes must run
with local administrator privileges. During installation,
the local administrator identity for each process is configured
with the following format:
LOCAL_MACHINE_NAME\Administrator
On
a Domain Controller, the user LOCAL_MACHINE_NAME\Administrator
does not exist. Instead, the local administrator is actually
the domain administrator (DOMAIN\Administrator). To ensure
that the software operates properly on a domain
controller, the user identities of each TotalRoam process
must be manually edited using the dcomcnfg utility. The steps
for installing the TotalRoam on a Domain Controller are
as follows:
1. Follow normal installation instructions and reboot
when prompted
2. After rebooting, you may see the error "Error connecting
to Total Roam Server. 0x8000401A:
Unable to communicate with the config server." This is
normal.
3. Run "dcomcnfg" and for each of the listed TR
processes (e.g. TRConfig, TRRouter, TRSystem,
TRLogger, and if installed, TRPrtcfg), do the following:
a.
Select the process
b. Click the "Properties" button
c. Click on the "Identities" tab
d. Browse for and select the domain administrator
e. Select the domain administrator
f. Save the new identity.
4. Repeat 3 for each TR process.
5. Reboot
Note: These steps will have to be followed each time
the domain admin password is changed.
